Product: the specialist role and one-to-one teacher–family messaging

August 2026 · 4 dk

Some early childhood institutions employ a psychologist, special education teacher or developmental specialist. Their access should fall into neither of two wrong extremes: no access at all, leaving the specialist working blind, or full administrator rights, opening far more than needed.

The specialist role

  • Broad but development-only access: the specialist sees developmental records, not administrative or financial areas.
  • They can write their own observations, which appear separately with a “Specialist” tag.
  • Access is opened per child by an administrator.
  • On deactivation the scope closes; historical records remain intact.

Tagging specialist observations separately is deliberate: a developmental specialist's note and a class teacher's note come from different vantage points, and at term's end it must be visible which is which.

One-to-one messaging

Communication between teachers and families has long run on personal phone numbers and message groups. That has two problems: no institutional memory forms, and the teacher's working hours dissolve. NOVA ECE offers a channel that brings this communication inside the institution.

  • Read receipts: whether a message was seen is visible.
  • Content lock: unshared observation notes cannot leak through this channel.
  • Management oversight: the institution can audit that communication exists — a matter of institutional responsibility.
  • Records: the conversation stays in the institution's archive, not on a personal phone.
This module is part of the on/off system too: an institution that does not want one-to-one messaging can switch it off; a closed module leaves the menus and no data is deleted.

Both modules share one logic: communication and access depend on the definition of roles, not on individuals' discretion. Who can see what is the part of a product that deserves the most thought.
