Product: the observation notebook and unified child profile

The observation notebook sits at NOVA ECE's core. The aim is simple: let a teacher record a moment they saw during the day before leaving the classroom. Long forms and mandatory fields defeat that aim, so the capture flow is deliberately short.

How it works

• Pick the child, write a one-sentence note; the record is complete.
• Tag the relevant developmental domain — more than one can be selected.
• Add a photograph if you wish; a frame without consent appears on no channel.
• Leave “share with family” on or off — the decision is the teacher's.

That last point is the most carefully considered part of the module. If every note had to be shared with parents, teachers would stop writing their own thinking notes. So unshared notes are closed to parents at the data layer too: not hidden in the interface, but inaccessible.

The unified child profile

So records do not stay scattered, each child has a single tabbed profile: development, observations, health and nutrition notes, photographs, reports. A teacher can read a child's term from one screen instead of reassembling information written in several places.

The teacher dashboard shows the state of the day: who has a record today, who has gone a long time without one, which permissions or reports are pending. The design decision here: the dashboard does not rank children — it asks the teacher questions.

This module is the foundation the rest of the platform is built on: the report centre and the AI insight layer draw only on the real records gathered here. With no records, the system invents nothing — it says there is not enough observation.
